My thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge bitches at their CH show, also thanks to my two very capable stewards .A great entry in numbers and quality, my only concern, a few bad mouths in the earlier classes and some bitches lacking in bone, in my opinion there is to much of a gap between dogs & bitches these days We all know bitches must be feminine compared with dogs but there is no excuse for lack of bone and muscle They are after all one breed and big boned muscular dogs and small boned spindly bitches is a recipe for disaster After saying that my principle winners were excellent examples of the breed

2ND DAVIDSON’S WAYSTAFF DANISH DELIGHT A lovely puppy bitch still a baby but shows a lot of promise good straight front nice tight feet, well turned out pasterns Stood 4 sq. & looks a good prospect at this stage

2ND MORROW & MARTIN’S ROBINSON LITTLE DEVIL Another lovely bitch similar qualities to 1st nice head good front short coupled with a good spring of rib and well layed back shoulders

1ST & BCC & BIS JACKSON & WHITEHOUSE CH BOURTIE WOT A STEAL I have admired this bitch for some time from the ringside but she still surprised me when I went over her the hardness & fitness of this bitch is hard to beat no exaggerations at all but quality shone through if there were a few more bitches of this quality about Stafford’s as a breed would be better off
2ND STANWAY’S WAYSTAFF DUTCH PEARL Another bitch I have liked for some time but never been over her, good pigmentation gleaming coat well balanced in all departments lovely expression moved perfectly

2ND O’CONNER’S BEARCREST EN VOGUE AT CHEZATREE When this bitch came in the ring it was like seeing an old friend that you haven’t seen for years I gave her a ticket 10yrs ago and I have not seen her since but recognised her straight away Carrying some weight these days but who could blame her at nearly 12yrs of age Still retains a lot of her virtues that I liked so much all those years ago

2. Kerry Winwood & Tunnah's Antroboss Tempesta Nera. Another nice dog, similar to 1, could change places at any time, just preffered movement of 1 on the day.

2. Pearces Quatros Gentle Lad. R\W pied. Nice head shape, good bite, decent topline, nice back end, moved and handled well.
3. Bolers Denegar Jack.
NOVICE 1. Bl/Pd Fletcher & Seedhouses Grantitangel Supergiant. Bl/Pd Dewcent headshpe, everything in the right places, just needs to mature.
2. Dowling Caswell & Jacksons Jackabyte Chase The Ace. Bl/Br. Very much a baby, needs to mature, just lost out on maturity.
GRADUATE 1. Goughs Waystaff Dutch Gigolo. White. Cracking headshape, good bite, nice rosed ears, good strong neck, lovely straight front, cracking topline with plenty of rib, good angulation, really moved well. Just needs to settle, just missed out on the reserve cc.

3. Moore & Connerys Cicely Sprauchled Out.

LIMIT 1. Plants Lackyle Aonread Aineas. Bl/Br. Outstanding quality dog. Cracking head shape, lovely rosed ears, lovely eye, good stop, cracking front, lovely feet, nice short back, ample rib, cracking mover, no hesitation awarding him the CC.
2. Guillen & Mayors Staffgold Octopus Opus. Bl/Br Much the same as 1. everything in the right place, cracking dog, RCC.

1st WAYSTAFF DUTCH CHIEFTAIN Mcdermott white and brindle pied what a

fantastic advert for the breed, top quality dog, just loved everything

about him. I do hope he goes all the way to the top. I will say this

he has got the blackest eyes, just what you need on a white dog.

2nd: SEDGBRED BLACK DIAMOND Hyde black brindle another good quality

dog good head and ears well sprung rib good coupling and moved well.

3rd: LITTLE BEAU GESTE

My wife, Denise, and I have had Staffords for over 20
years – although we only started showing about 10
years ago. Our show career started when we took
Ouzo (CH Lord Fagin at Denagar) into the ring and
he was awarded three CC’s and one RCC. We were
also showing Velvet (Denagar Boo’s Pride) and Shell
(Denegar Your One in a Million) – both achieving their
Stud Book Number. We thought “this will be easy
– this showing dogs thing!” ….. but how wrong can
you be??!! Well, it may not be easy but we have
thoroughly enjoyed showing our dogs and we think we have been very lucky with
them.
I am honoured to be asked to judge the EMSBC Members’ Limited Show, my first
breed club appointment, and look forward to giving an honest opinion on the day.
I hope you thoroughly enjoy exhibiting your dogs and that you, too, are lucky with
them!!
I know I will have a great day with the East Midlands SBT Club, and I sincerely
hope you do too.

DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES 11/09
Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer
shall be counted as wins at Open Shows. In the case of a dog owned in partnership and
entered in Members’ classes or competing for Members’ Specials each partner must at the
time of entry be a member of the Society. In estimating the number of awards won, all wins
up to and including the seventh day before the date of closing of entries shall be counted when
entering for any class i.e. (27th December 2010).
Wins in Variety classes do not count for entry in Breed classes but when entering in Variety
classes, wins in both Breed and Variety classes must be counted. A first prize does not
include a Special Prize of whatever value. If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class
or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, the exhibitor may choose one of
the following options:- (1) Withdrawal The dog may be withdrawn from competition subject
to the conditions of Regulations 9(j) and 20. (2) Transfer a) If a dog is ineligible for a class
or classes as regards its colour, sex, weight or height the Show Secretary shall transfer it to
the equivalent class or classes for the correct colour, sex, weight or height and, in the event
of their being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted to the Open class for the
correct colour, sex, weight or height. b) For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy
Class, Puppy Class or Junior Class, which is over age but under twelve calendar months of
age, eighteen calendar months of age or twenty-four calendar months of age respectively, the
Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy Class, Junior Class or Yearling Class
respectively for the correct colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of their being no
Puppy, Junior or Yearling Class to the Open class for the correct colour, sex, weight or height.
c) For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer It to the Open class
for the correct colour, sex, weight or height. d) If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class,
even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dog may not be transferred to any
other class.
MINOR PUPPY - For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the first
day of the show.
PUPPY - For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of
the show.
JUNIOR - For dogs of six and not exceeding eighteen calendar months of age on the first day
of the show
MAIDEN - For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or a First Prize at an Open or
Championship Show (Minor Puppy, Special Minor Puppy, Puppy and Special Puppy classes
excepted whether restricted or not)
NOVICE - For dogs which have not a Challenge Certificate or three or more First Prizes at Open
and Championship Shows (Minor Puppy, Special Minor Puppy, Puppy and Special Puppy
classes excepted, whether restricted or not).
UNDERGRADUATE - For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or 3 or more First
Prizes at Championship Shows (Minor Puppy, Special Minor Puppy, Puppy and Special Puppy
Classes excepted whether restricted or not
POST GRADUATE - For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or five or more First
Prizes at Championship in Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open classes,
whether restricted or not.
LIMIT - For dogs which have not become Show Champions under the Kennel Club Regulations
or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won 7 or more
First Prizes in all at Championship Shows in Limit and Open Classes, confined to the breed,
whether restricted or not at shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed.
OPEN - For all dogs of the breeds for which the class is provided and eligible for entry at the
show.
BREEDERS - For dogs bred by exhibitor.
NOT FOR COMPETITION - Entries received "Not for Competition" are confined to Staffordshire
Bull Terriers Only
RULES AND REGULATIONS 11/09
1. The show will open at 9.30 a.m.
2. Dogs will be received at any time but it is the exhibitors responsibility to ensure that exhibits are available
for judging when required.
3. Judging will commence at 10.00 am prompt in the dog ring
4. Exhibits may be removed from the show after their judging has been completed. The show will close
half an hour after all judging has been completed.
5. The use of cooking stoves in the proximity of the tenting and benching areas is forbidden except as
authorized by the Show Management.
6. Entry Fees: £5.00 per dog. All subsequent entries with same dog £1. Membership £5.00 single, £6.00
joint (optional). Pre-paid catalogues £1.50 - £2.00 on the day
7. Prize Money: £10 to B.I.S., £10 to R.B.I.S, £10 to B.P.I.S., £10 to B.O.S.P.
8. The Committee reserves to itself the right to refuse entries
9. Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the show are not eligible for exhibition.
10. The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden.
11. Best Puppy in Show: Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is
a puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same show. A puppy
is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the
Best in Show is a puppy it will automatically be Best Puppy in Show. Similarly, if the Reserve Best in
Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it will also automatically be Best Puppy in
Show. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best in Show. Best
Puppy in Show must be selected from puppies which have been judged and which are unbeaten by any
other puppy Withdrawal from Other Competition:. Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in
Show maybe withdrawn from all other competition, other than Breed Classes, prior to the competition
for Best Puppy in Show in order to remain unbeaten. A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in
Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog
declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Proviso: For
the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace
and Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.
12. Best in Show: The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which has competed and is unbeaten by any
other dog exhibited at the same Show. Best in Show must be selected from the exhibits declared Best
of Sex providing they are unbeaten winning dogs. Reserve Best in Show must be selected from the
Best Opposite Sex and the Reserve Best of Sex to the exhibit declared Best in Show. The dogs declared
Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show must not compete in any subsequent competition. Withdrawal
from other competition: Dogs which become eligible for Best in Show maybe withdrawn from all other
competition other than breed classes prior to the competition for Best in Show as appropriate in order
to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in
all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best
in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Proviso: For the purposes of this
Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special
Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs.
13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since
the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by
previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show
Management.
14. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the
Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.
15. All exhibitors must be familiar with the Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the
Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. A special place will be provided for the cleaning and preparation of
exhibits and no other place within the precincts of the Show must be used for such purpose.
16. All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number
before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete
number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor.
17 Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance
to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.
• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy
holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.
• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at
all.
• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of
water available to drink.
• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around
the dog.
• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.
• Keep the dog in the shade – take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have
plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.
• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for
extended lengths of time.
Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this
could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare.
WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR
VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILILTY FOR ANY DAMAGE
CAUSED.
Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps
to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk
by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect
may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and
Regulations.
18. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on
the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered
19 Any owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as
soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club Licensed Show within
the licensed venue and within the environs of the event including car and caravan parks and
approaches.
20. Registered with the K.C. All exhibits must be registered at the Kennel Club in the name of the
exhibitor. In the case of a partnership, the full name of each partner must be shown on the Entry
Form.
21. A dog may be disqualified by the K.C. General Committee from any award, whether an objection
has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been registered or recorded
as having been bred by the scheduled judge. This shall not apply to a judge appointed in an
emergency
22. EXHIBITS ONLY: No animal other than the a dog duly entered at the show will be admitted
within the precincts of the Show
23. RESPONSIBILITY: It should be distinctly understood by exhibitors and spectator at the Show
that the Committee will not be responsible for the entire or partial loss or detention of or damage
to dogs or any other property whether arising from accident or any other cause whatsoever or
from any act or omission of themselves or their officers, servants, agents or others. Exhibitors
and spectators will be held responsible for any damage to property or equipment within the show
environs caused by their children or children in their care. It is on this understanding that entries
are accepted.
24. REGULATION F. F9 EXHIBITION OF DOGS: a) No person shall carry out punitive correction
or harsh handling of a dog at any time whilst at the licensed venue including its environs, car park
and caravan parks and approaches. b) The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of
a dog at Kennel Club events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control
whilst at he licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches.
25. F12 FRAUDULENT OR DISCREDITABLE CONDUCT AT SHOWS: The Secretary of a Show
must immediately report in writing to the Secretary of the Kennel Club.
26. Cup and Trophies. Winners of Cups and Trophies must pay £1.00 for each Cup or Trophy they
sign for. This will be refunded when any such Cup or Trophy is returned, in accordance with the
details set out in the Schedule.
27. Abide by the Rules. Every Exhibitor making an entry or entries for this Show shall be deemed to
have agreed to abide by Kennel Club Rules and Show Regulations and it is on this understanding
only that entries are accepted.
28. Responsibility of Exhibitors. All dogs must be accompanied and attended to at all times
29. Unentered Dogs. No animal other than a dog duly entered at the Show will be admitted within the
precincts of the Show
30. Stall Holders. Authorised Stall Holders only are permitted within the precincts of the Show.
Applications for consideration must be made in writing to the Secretary on or before the closing
date of entries. Pedlars are not allowed within the precincts of the Show
NOTE: The committee can accept no responsibility for products advertised or sold by stand holders.
Reminding exhibitors that grooming products on sale may not meet with the requirements of the
Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition F. (K.C.)
DIRECTIONS TO THE VENUE
Directions to Venue Leave the M1 at junction 22, then at roundabout take the 1st exit
on to the A50 signposted Leicester (from north) or 4th exit (from south). Continue for
approximately 1.5 miles. At Field Head roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Launde
Road, continuing forward to enter Markfield. You will pass the Islamic Centre on your
left and Tomlinsons Boarding Kennels and Canine Centre is to be found 100 yards
further on, on the right hand side.
Important Notice
In the interest of hygiene this venue, as with others, must be kept clean and tidy.
Dogs must be exercised only in the area provided. If a dog fouls any part of the
venue and/or Exercise Area, then it is the responsibility of the Exhibitor, Handler
and/or Owner to CLEAN IT UP and place in the the bins provided
PLEASE HELP TO KEEP THIS VENUE CLEAN AND TIDY
REGULATION FOR THE PREPARATION OF DOGS FOR EXHIBITION 'F'
(Annex B)
1. These Regulations must be observed when a dog is prepared for exhibition and/or exhibited
at any Kennel Club Licensed event. Objections may be referred to the General Committee for
disciplinary action under these Show Regulations and/or for disciplinary action under Kennel Club
RuleA42. (a) A dog found to have been exhibited in breach of these Regulations will automatically
be disqualified from exhibition at the show and from any award gained thereat. (b) Unless the
exhibitor provides a satisfactory explanation for the dog being exhibited in breach of these Regulations
then he/she may be subject to further penalties of either a fine or as listed under Rule A42.
2. (a) No substance which alters the natural colour, texture or body of the coat may be present in
the dog’s coat for any purpose at any time during the Show. No substance which alters the natural
colour of any external part of the dog may be present on the dog for any purpose at any time during
the Show. (b) Any other substance (other than water) which may be used in the preparation of
a dog for exhibition must not be allowed to remain in the coat or on any other part of the dog at
the time of exhibition.
3. No act or operation which alters the natural conformation of a dog or any part thereof may be
performed except:- (a) Operations certified to the satisfaction of the General Committee. (b) The
removal of dew claws of any breed. (c) Operations to prevent breeding provided that such operations
are notified to the Kennel Club before neutered dogs are shown. Nor must anything be done
calculated to in the opinion of the General Committee to deceive.
4. The General Committee without previous notice may order an examination of any dog or dogs at
any Show. Any examination thus ordered will be made by a person having executive authority who
shall have a written directive from the Kennel Club in their possession. Samples may be taken for
further examination and analysis.
5. An individual has the right to lodge an objection to a dog only if he/she is the owner or handler
of a dog competing in the same breed or class. An objection may, however, be lodged by an official
of the Show or by anyone so deputed by the Kennel Club. It will be the responsibility of the
individual who lodges the objection or the official (as appropriate), to substantiate the grounds for
the objection. The Kennel Club will substantiate the grounds for an objection made on its behalf.
6. Any objection by an individual related to an infringement of these Regulations must be made
in writing to the Show Secretary at his/her office before the close of the Show and the individual
must produce evidence of identity at the time of lodging the complaint.

The show of the month, probably of the year, must be the East Midlands Diamond Jubilee championship show. The show completed an excellent celebratory year for the club and what a great entry and atmosphere it had for exhibitors and spectators alike. I am grateful to Janet Higgins, who sent me some interesting details on the show. The entry was 270 dogs making 306 entries pretty evenly split between the sexes. With entries of 33 and 26 in the limit classes, it was reminiscent of days gone by.

The silent auction organised by the club to support Leicestershire SBT Rescue raised a total of £524 which, with the monies received with entries made a grand total of £568. The rescue stallholders reported good takins of around £200. Janet wants to thank, on behalf of all the committee, al those clubs and individuals who supported the club by way of generous donations. As a result different ceramic gifts were awarded to all prize winners from first to fifth in every class. The £50 raffle was won by one of the guest stewards, Mr George White.

In the interval there was a marvellous parade of champions with 26 taking part and each of them receiving a special diamond jubilee rosette. Janet adds the interesting statistic that these animals between them had won 109 CC’s and 72 RCC’s. The audience was very enthusiastic and appreciative of this display. Among the audience were a number of overseas visitors and each was invited to the hospitality room and presented with gifts of a 2010 mug, coaster and catalogue pack as a memento of the show. At the end of the show Alan Hedges (dog judge), Dave Lee (bitch judge) and Derek Smart (Referee) were each presented with commemorative diamond jubilee gifts.

DCC and BIS was Scarlet & Reids’s Ramblestaff Ebenezer Good (Ch Stormbull Solo ex Ramblestaff Off the Richter, and RDCC Samby & Frost’s Sunnystone Wizard of Oz (Int/Aus Ch Koendidda Umrum x Steel Magnolia). Both of these came out of the limit class.

BCC & RBIS was Frankland’s Alwych Tiger Lily (Ch Alport Fire Cracker ex A Lady Marmalade) from junior bitch and RCC Jackson & Whitehouse’s Ch Bourtie Wot a Steal (Ch Stormbull So Wot ex Ch Bourtie Steal the Limelight) from Open Bitch.

BP, on the Referee’s decision, was Davidson’s Waystaff Dutch Minister (Northpoints Dutch Courage at Waystaff ex Ch Waystaff Strikes Again) and BPB was Simpson’s Briganah Breaking Dawn (Ch Carnig Positive Profile ex Briganah All About Eve). BV was Lay’s dog Ch Carnig Positive Profile (Ch Beebeemi Claudius ex Eaststar Some Might Say).

East Midlands SBTC Diamond Jubilee Ch Show

DOGS

This was a very special day for me and I would like to extend my thanks to everyone involved for what seemed ( I was limited in what I could see as I was busy all day) to be a super show. There was a terrific crowd and a super atmosphere.

My thanks go to my two stewards who were great and kept me on the straight and narrow all day, to Maureen, Janet and Ray for a good laugh the night before, and all the committee for the warm welcome in the morning.

I would add that everything below is only one persons opinion, make of it what you will, I’ll pitch up when you are judging to see what you think of my dogs

For most of the last year or so the general ringside consensus has been that the dogs are not all that exciting. I would like to report that this is not the case, but sadly I can’t because it isn’t, they are not that great at the moment.

To offer some qualification on that. Most of the classes were competitive, but at a level lower than what I think they should be. We are not overflowing with rubbishy dogs, so please don’t anybody be thinking that. What we are short of is a bit of star quality. Hopefully this is a short term issue.

Looking at the bitches over the last wee while, they look to be a level above and if stud dogs are found for them the next generation of really smart dogs may only be just one breeding away, at least we can all hope so.

BIS was the dog Ramblestaff Ebeneezer Good JW. He is in my opinion a very good dog, he is clean, sound and fits the standard pretty much all round. He has balance without exaggeration and is a super example of the breed.

If I may offer a view on what I was looking for. The Stafford is in my view, a compact dog, who optimally falls within the bounds of 16” and 38lbs, has plenty about him and a bit of get up and go. Get up and go is in short supply nowadays due to the times we live in, but that shouldn’t stop the dog being in very good order and up on his toes. Generally speaking being soft to the touch ended a dogs involvement at the sharp end. Lack of condition is not really defendable. I have said it before and will say it again, if you are going to compete with your dog, get rid of the reasons to get beat first. No matter how good you think your dog is, it is a competitive sport and having long nails, dirty coats, lifting aroma and dirty teeth is pretty much certain not to endear your dog to the judge. You might not have the very best dog, but you can have one of the best turned out.

I am not a fan of heads like 50 bob cabbages nor do I like a dog with long legs and no bone. As objectionable as the manchester terrier comment was to some, having tanks wandering about the place is no better and for sure, two wrongs do not make a right.

Instead of moving further out to the perimeters with exaggeration of height, weight, substance etc, try and regain the middle ground, that is where the breed needs to be in my view. Offering what the other guy does as justification for your idea of what’s right, is no justification. Ours may not be the best written standard in the world, but at least pay it lip service.

Having said all that, thank you to everyone that came and sought my opinion, you’ll find me easily enough if you want to discuss it more. Thanks for the totally sporting way in which everyone took the decisions, the shaking of hands and congratulations being shared round gladdened this old stagers heart.

MPD (8)

Quite a modest class.

1. Lister’s Mafia Don, compact Bl/br. At this stage he has a decent head, good bone, a short back, dark eyes and a decent expression. He moved very well behind. Could well have a bright future.

2. Hirst & Bibby’s Taraeil Dizzy Rascal. This chap doesn’t help himself at all, but maybe this will improve with age. He is a smidge lighter made up than the winner and most of the same remarks could and do apply here. On the odd occasion that he settled he moved OK, but a better performance is needed to be competitive.

3. Desmond’s Noblestaff Firecracker at Elitebull. Quite a good head on this one. He has a dark eye, enough bone, a level topline and his backend is OK. He moved quite well.

PD (14,2)

1. Davidson’s Waystaff Dutch Minister. A brindle dog who is quite positive in a lot of areas. He has a strong foreface, enough stop, dark enough eyes and his ears are good. He has a strong neck, a straight front and good bone. His feet are neat with short nails. He has a level topline , standing and on the move. He has a short back, a bit of a waist and that leads into a decent backend. He carries sufficient muscle tone for his age and he moved pretty well. He won BPIS and another couple of classes along the way. Could well develop into a genuine contender at a later date.
2. Gibb’s Wannevilles Lucky Dragon. A black brindle dog whose head I liked quite a lot. He has a good expression, strong muzzle and dark eyes. He is not so forward or as compact as the winner and looks to be a bit behind in maturity terms. If he bodies up to match his head he could do well in the future. He moves OK and that could also get better as he gets older.
3. Keirl’s Oscellsies Dark Venger. Another dark brindle. He has a decent head although I would prefer smaller ears, he has good bone, a decent front and his topline is ok. He carried decent muscle tone and looked to be a progressive sort.

JD (16,1)

1. Birney's Sebsonic Jealous Guy. This was the first dog who looked like he could be in the frame. I was taken with him from the outset. He is a good sized dog and would be very close to the ideal for weight as well I would guess. He looks to have a pretty good head, I say looks to because much to my annoyance I could not get to be into it just as much as I would like as he is a serious livewire and gets himself well worked up. Having said that I saw enough of his head to like it, but he shot himself in the foot later, you have to be able to see it to give it a CC. Anyway, his muzzle is short and blunt, good stop, enough skull and dark enough eyes. Strong neck, decent front when his handler leaves him alone, short back, level topline, close coupled and a decent back end. He was in tip top condition and if a word could be had with him as to what is wanted at a show, who knows. Good luck with him.

2. Ogbourne’s Welshstaff Credit Crunch. Another compact dog, and another who wasn’t helping himself that much either. I liked his head and expression, he has a straight front, a short back, good topline and a decent backend. He couldn’t compete with the condition of the winner (and that can be fixed), and in my view, if this chap is brought to a peak he has definite possibilities.

3. Stewart's Ranolien Run For Home. This dog was the best mover in the class. He is also compact, a good size and is obviously very sound. I preferred the head on the second and he also couldn’t compete with the winner on condition. Get him spot on and who knows.

1. Birney's Sebsonic Jealous Guy.

2. Cooch & Maud’s Gnobulls Funk Odyssey, fawn and white dog in very good condition. Good strong , clean head, good bone, good front and feet. Short back with a level topline and a good cut in at the waist. He has a decent backend and he moved well enough.

3. Folwell & Morris’s Rowellstaff Mr Ferguson. Red dog who is not fully tuned up. He has a good head which has strength and depth and a good expression. His front and bone are OK, but his feet need attention. Good neck, short back, OK topline. In better condition and with more attention to detail he can go further than this.

PG (21,3)

A competitive class.

1. Meara & Millgate’s Ramblestaff Solo Eclipse at Millamear, compact bl brindle dog who has a bit to commend him. He has a decent head and although I would prefer his muzzle a smidge shorter there is enough strength there. He has a dark eye and neat ears. His neck is strong, his front straight and well boned and his feet are fine. He has a short back, is close coupled and has a waist. His backend is well muscled and he moved well enough. Good dog.

2. Rastall & Durham’s Merimna Ahead Inline. A lot of the above remarks apply here. The winner has a darker eye and has a tad more spring of rib giving the impression of a being a bit shorter in back, but there’s not much in it. This chap is also in pretty good nick and he was made the most of.

3. Gibbins' Crossguns Fred Astaire. He looked the winner early on. He has a good head, front, body and movement. In the end I took the view that one and two were just that bit more positive, but he is a stylish and typy dog and a credit to his owner

LD (33,6)

1. Scarlett & Reid’s Ramblestaff Ebenezer Good JW, CC & BIS. I have admired this chap since he was a puppy and he did not disappoint. He has a good head with a muzzle of correct length and strength. He has dark eyes, neat ears and a good stop. He has a strong neck and good shoulders. His front is good with correct bone and good feet. He has a short back with a level topline, good rib and a waist. His backend is good with correct shape and musculation. He moved out well and in the final analysis he wasn’t overly pushed to win the CC. I think he is a lovely dog and hope the other 2 CC’s come along directly, he is well worth a title.

2. Samby & Frost’s Sunnystone Wizard of Oz. RCC. Now here’s a dog with a lot more to come. He is not fully tuned up and when he is he will give most a run for their money. He has a good head, good front, is well boned, has a good length of back and a good backend. All of these virtues with be enhanced when he is as fit as he should be. His virtues allowed him to carry that lack of fine tuning. He is a very typy dog who will get better.

3. Evans' Kalhol Dark Maruda. This is a bigger and stronger dog than one and two. He has a powerful head with a decent expression, he has lots of bone, a short back and a good waist on him. His backend is powerful and he is overall a good dog who will surely be sporting a title ere too long. I liked him a lot.

OD (12,2)

1. Callaghan’s Ch Bourtie Wot A Boy. Its very easy to see why this chap is a champion. He has a clean strong head, with big teeth, dark eyes and neat ears. He has a strong neck and a bang straight front. He has a short back, a waist and a decent topline. His backend is fine and he moves well.

2. Woolett's Ashstock Red Miller, smart red dog with a decent head, good bone, a short enough back, good waist and good condition generally. He moved OK.

3. Marachowski’s Kalhols Black Magic at Passernomen, a well conditioned bl, br who has a good head and a short back. I didn’t think he went at his best today and he paid the price.

VD (4,1)

1. Lay's Ch Carnig Positive Profile High class dog who is just beginning to show his age, however as with the second dog class is permanent and this fella has it in abundance. Moved and showed like a trouper.

2. Waters' Ch Ashstock By Jupiter Another class act who is getting on a bit now, he has a lovely head and still looks well.

3. Fairhirst's Yorks One Time For Fairlenium. Smashing chap who was up against it with these two, but he showed well and went about his business with a bit of verve.

I love and hate this class in equal measure. I know each of these dogs and I was ashamed to have to put one of them last. I would be proud to own or have bred any of them and they are each a credit to the breed. Thankyou for giving me the honour of judging these three.

My thanks to all my colleagues at East Midlands SBT Club in presenting a first class Championship Show. I thoroughly enjoyed the occasion, which will remain with me forever. Again I thank you all.

My thanks to All exhibitors for presenting your dogs for my opinion. I also take this opportunity to thank my two ring stewards, Mr. George White and Mr. Gary Hinsley’ who kept things running smoothly and efficiently throughout the day.

May I also thank the Breed Clubs in the UK and around The World, and also individuals who supported the Club in the sponsorship of the classes; this generosity was very much appreciated by the Club, their Officers and committee.

The overall quality of the exhibits was encouraging with no major constructional faults, on some, fitness was another matter, in addition as was thin weak feet and long nails also evident were dirty teeth, there being no excuse for any of the mentioned. Temperament was excellent, as expected in the Stafford.

2nd Vidot’s – Action Doggy Dog Chanel Cheek ( ATC AK00829FRA), nothing doggy about this girl, again lots to like about this B/B carries many of the attributes of winner difficult decision just lost out to 1.

3rd.- Raynsford – Raynstaff Do You Know Who I Am. B/B with white on chest overall nice athletic bitch, good head good mouth. Dark eyes straight front well defined waist, moved well.

L.B.21 – 7abs.

1st Smith- Cox & Wagstaff- Willowstaff Barbed Tongue. Top sized upstanding athletic B/B. Strong clean head shape, dark eyes, good ear carriage, correct mouth strong teeth, good front, well defined waist, good hindquarters, neat tail. Good movement.

2nd.- Foster & McDonald. –Tusselstaff Black Fury. B/B strong deep through skull dark eyes neat ears, good front, well ribbed, strong hindquarters movement good.

3rd- Dewar – Mintmar One for One, standard B/B carries and possessing all the virtues of 1&2, bringing up a trio of quality bitchs.

O.B. 19 -3 abs

Class full of quality , difficult decisions, decided only on split hairs, therefore many unfortunately went home cardless.

1st Jackson & Whitehouse CH Bourtie Wot A Steal.B/B with white flash on chest worthy CH , her virtues and positive in rear movement won her the class and R.C.C.

Cairns – Dinalghi Touch of Class. B/B certainly a touch of class here, excelled in all departments, misbehaved a little on the move and have seen her in harder condition and this was the only deciding factor in not getting top spot.

3rd – Hopkins – Ch Trufflestaff Monifa Kanika. B/B another worthy champion possessing all the virtues and attributes of 1&2

East Midlands Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club – Diamond Jubilee Championship Show, 7th November 2010.

The day of the show dawned dry, bright and chilly – a perfect day for dog showing! The EMSBTC Committee had pulled out all the stops to make the Kennel Club building look welcoming and reflect the sense of occasion that a 60th birthday warrants with banners, bunting, balloons and flowers on the gate, top table and in both rings. The Club had labelled this special year ‘A Celebration of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier’ and there was a board full of pictures of Staffords with families and children and of Rescue dogs after rehoming, showing all the love of comfort and affection typical of the breed!

The Club had organised a Silent Auction in aid of Leicestershire SBT Rescue which was widely publicised in the schedule, on the Club website and in the canine press. This prompted many donations of different SBT memorabilia and other items from a number of generous sponsors. These were on display and attracted a lot of attention – a lot from overseas visitors. The final result was that every item was sold and the fantastic amount of £524 was raised.

Almost every class was sponsored – either by supportive individuals or by other Breed Club from the UK, the US and Canada – and the EMSBTC thanks every sponsor for their immense generosity. There was acknowledgement for all class sponsors, but to those who prefer to remain anonymous we would say ……. We know who you are and thank you!!

Overseas visitors were given complimentary drinks and snacks along with a bag containing ceramic gifts and a catalogue pack.

There was an excellent entry of 270 dogs fairly evenly split between dogs – judged by Mr Alan Hedges, and bitches – judged by Mr David Lee. Results are as follows.

The EMSBTC will host a return match with Notts & Derbys District Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club on the above date. All members of both Clubs are invited to attend and bring along the Stafford members of their family for an evening of light competition, fun and enjoyment!! Mr Derek Allsopp, a well known figure in the canine world, has kindly accepted our invitation to be our judge on this occasion.

There will be free refreshments (plus tea/coffee/soft drinks) on the night and we hope to have a really good turn out. Needless to say there will also be a raffle. Any contributions to either the buffet or the raffle will be gratefully accepted!

As you know this year we are celebrating our Diamond Jubilee year and have already had 2 special shows. This November marks our Diamond Jubilee Championship Show. The club are marking this occasion in many ways. We have Special limited edition rosettes for 1st to VHC in all classes along with Special edition place cards. There are rosettes for Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show and Best Puppy in show , Best Dog, Best bitch, res Best Dog , res Best Bitch along with Best Vetran and Best Puppy dog and Bitch. There is also Limited Edition Diamond Jubilee Ceramic Specials for 1st to VHC in each class.

I would like to express my thanks to the officers and committee of the EMSBTC for the opportunity to judge this Open Show and to thank the stewards, Linda Lee and Zoe Martin for all their hard work on the day. May I also thank all the exhibitors who made the day a very enjoyable one.

Lovely balanced black dog with a lovely coat, good skull, top line and movement ok.

2nd Little Beau Geste

Unfortunately up against tough opposition, still a nice and tidy dog with a good top line and moved well.

What a cracking dog he is, red and white with good skull, well balanced, with good bone and one for the future. Went on to become best puppy in show.

A nice black and white dog with nice eyes and good pigmentation throughout. Moved well and once again just pipped by first.

Very difficult dog to handle but I did manage to get a look at him, good skull, pigmentation, lovely coat and a well balanced dog. Movement ok.

Lovely red and white dog who was handled very well. A good mover who was sound throughout and had a good front.

Another nice dog who had a cracking front on him, who moved well and had a lovely coat and colour. Very well balanced in all departments.

Another dog just pipped by the first, good skull, level top line and good hind quarters. Movement ok.

A lovely dog with a nice coat showing off his colour of black brindle and white. He moved very well, had a good skull with ear carriage to match. A nice closely coupled dog.

Another lovely dog who was closely pipped by the first. Had all the attributes of the first dog except fitness but still a lovely fellow to go over.

This dog had a good coat and was fit for its age. Had a good skull and expression. Another one a pleasure to go over. Movement ok.

What a lovely puppy bitch to go over. Predominantly black with a good coat, good skull, ears, closely coupled with very good feet. Lovely dark eyes with good pigmentation, moved and handled very well. Stood like a trouper. One for the future. Went on to become best puppy bitch and best bitch in show.

2nd Florentina Jewel

Another nice bitch who was handled and moved well, Had a good top line and as the first was closely coupled. Another one to watch.

3rd Macadermus Shanawana Donmarlyn

Another all round balanced puppy bitch, neat ears, good skull with a lovely black coat. Nicely coupled, good mover with neat feet.

2nd Oilgarth Wee Eileen

Another predominately black bitch who was a bit unlucky on the day. It was a close call between first and second. Good skull, good ear carriage, movement and top line ok.Well handled.

A lovely black and white bitch who was extremely fit and muscular with good front and hind quarters. Lovely feminine skull with an excellent coat and good movement.

Another lovely black and white bitch who had many of the attributes of the first and was very well handled and yet another one with dark eyes and excellent pigmentation throughout.

Another predominately black bitch who looked very feminine, was closely coupled. Very neat skull and ears. Movement ok.
